Is this allowed? Will colleges know I got help?
Yes, it is allowed, and no, they won't know because we never edit your document. You get comments and suggested solutions. Every change is made by you, in your own words. What is not allowed is someone else writing your essay.
What exactly do I get?

Why not just have my English teacher read it?
Do that too. They know you, which is worth something. They also have a hundred and twenty other students, they read for grammar and structure because that is what they were trained to do, and they have never seen what your essay looks like sitting in a pile next to forty thousand others. We are reading for a different thing entirely: whether yours is the one a stranger remembers an hour later.
Will you keep my voice?
Yes. The goal is to sharpen your writing, not replace it. Your essay should still sound unmistakably like you when the feedback is applied.
